上杉　日本の新聞社はたくさんの記者を抱えています。それはビジネスモデルとして「すでに崩壊している」といっていいでしょう。例えば海外では新聞社と通信社は職種が違う。通信社の記者はたくさんいて、若くて給料も安い。彼らの仕事というのは現場に急行して、できるだけ早く原稿を書くということ。

　新聞記者は取材して、分析し、自分の主観を入れて書く。通信社の優秀な記者は新聞記者になるし、ダメな新聞記者は通信社の記者に格下げとなる。そして頂点にフリーランスがいる。ニューヨーク・タイムズには300人ほどの記者しかいませんが、多くの記事は通信社によるもの。

　しかし日本の大手新聞紙は、すべて同じような体質。毎日新聞の記者は3000人、朝日新聞は4000人、読売新聞は5000人といった感じで、しかもみんな給料が高い。ダメな記者にも高い給料を支払わなければならないので、コストのことを考えればもっと通信社に頼ってもいいはず。なので毎日新聞の記者3000人のうち、300人を残し、残りは2700人を通信社に異動してもらう。そうすればかなりのコストを削減できるはず。

　そして残った新聞記者の給料は、2～3倍あげてもいいと思う。こういった形でビジネスモデルを組み替えていけば、新聞社もとりあえずは生き残っていくのではないでしょうか。
